EFFECTIVE APRIL 2004, Ohio law permits certain licensed individuals to carry concealed weapons. Unless otherwise posted, these persons can bring weapons onto your property. If you do not want this to happen, Boehm Inc. offers a variety of signage options to express your "No Firearms Policy".
THE LAW IN A NUTSHELL
Beginning as early as April, Ohio residents will have the opportunity to apply to their local Sheriff for a license allowing them to carry a concealed handgun. Applicants are required to pass a criminal background check and complete a twelve hour training course before the license will be issued. Once the license is issued, the licensee is permitted to legally carry a concealed handgun unless otherwise restricted by state or federal law, or prohibited by a property owner or employer. The list of areas "off-limit" to concealed handguns are numerous and include:

� School, including public and private colleges
� Child day-care centers
� Any room in which liquor is being dispensed, including open air arenas
� Buildings owned or leased by the state, municipality or the federal government, including those portions of buildings licensed by such a government entity
� Churches and other places of worship
� Courthouses
� Airports, prisons, youth detention facilities, mental institutions and law enforcement facilities.

In addition to this list of restricted areas, the law permits private property owners and employers to prohibit licensed individuals from carrying concealed handguns onto their land or premises by posting a sign in a conspicuous place forbidding weapons. Failure to abide by a posted notice prohibiting weapons on private property is punishable as a fourth degree misdemeanor.
